Rich and well-balanced narrative on the Indus Valley Cities

This is one of the best books on Anthropology that i ever read. Prof Kenoyer's writing style is very engaging and makes the narrative as an informative detective story. I couldn't keep the book down until i completed reading it page to page. The well-balanced content comes from the author's experience growing up on the subcontinent, and his ability to relate contemporary culture with the past.

Superb, factual introduction to the ancient Indus Valley.

Mark Kenoyer is one of the leading experts on the ancient Indus Valley. As Director of the current excavations at the ancient Indus site of Harappa, he has made a number of new discoveries which are greatly expanding our knowledge of this civilization. The books is thorough, well-illustrated, and free of the ideological biases that have so long tainted ancient Indus studies. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the facts. Kenoyer is also one of the few archaeologists who has worked in both Pakistan and India and is able to cover the ancient culture and its relationships to people today in both modern countries.

Very comprehensive and thought-provoking book

An excellent reference on the subject. It is modern in its approach, and updates a number of previous studies. It makes a number of new observations about the circular objects in Harappa. Perhaps they were not granaries as previously believed, but objects for dyeing textiles. It also suggests that there was another river parallel to the Indus River that has gone underground. One may be able to access this underground river using modern technology, and bring agriculture to areas that are now a desert.
The book should be of interest to archaeologists as well as general readers. Maps and photographs make the story very tangible.

Juanita Ryan is a clinical nurse specialist with an MSN in psychiatric mental health nursing. She has taught mental health nursing at Bethel University, Rio Hondo Community College and Biola University. Busyness and Faith

Ever felt like you are so busy that it is difficult to discern and sense the presence of God in the middle of the whirlwind of activity and conflicting expectations? Juanita Ryan has too, and she has developed a Bible Study for people and groups of people that struggle with finding God in the midst of a hectic life.

While I might council many people living in the middle of a whirlwind that they need to ruthlessly eliminate hurry from their life, as Dallas Willard once advised someone he was mentoring, I do think Ms. Ryan presents to the church a valuable resource. She speaks to people in the midst of their busyness, and challenges them to set priorities, rest, and choose joy and service over bitterness and being self-serving. Since so many people feel so very busy in our world, this might be a good place to start to connect with people and begin to challenge them to bring Christ-centered practices in the midst of their personal chaos and find refreshment and healing.

Problem Solving Strategies by Arthur Engel

I am a student at a college in New England and I bought this book in high school. The book claims no knowledge of higher mathematics is necessary to complete the problems but that claim is simply untrue. You need higher mathematics to solve some of these problems. The author says anyone with a standard high school mathematics education can solve these problems. I strongly disagree. They are similar to high school problems but they are in much much greater depth.

Wow! The problems in the book are extremely difficult but not impossible. I would recommend only buying this book if you have access to mathematics professor(s) who can help you understand these problems for the Putnam Competition or you have a committed group of friends who like math. It takes me hours to solves these problems but I love it!

great book for mathematics competitions

This is a rather complete book for students and coaches who are preparing for mathematics competitions such as the IMO. It is loaded with problem-solving strategies for a large variety of mathematics problems ranging from combinatorics, number theory, sequences, polynomials and geometry to game theory, a topic which is not normally included in mathematics competitions. There are tons of problems (around 1300) to hone your mathematical skills. Another very good book in a similar category is the IMO Compendium. The books by Titu Andreescu are also excellent for mathematics competitions.

About the Author
Mark Dugopolski was born in Menominee, Michigan. After receiving a B.S. from Michigan State University, he taught high school for four years, and then went on to receive an M.S. in mathematics from Northern Illinois University. He also received a Ph.D. in the area of topology from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Mark has been teaching at Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, LA, ever since. Mark has been writing textbooks for about fifteen years. He is married and has two daughters, and enjoys playing tennis, jogging, and riding his bicycle in his spare time.

Math textbook delivers

Well, there isn't much I could say about this textbook, but it did do its job. The textbook had examples and explanations for every section, followed by exercises for practice.

I will say though, it was nice that the book is relatively thin compared to other calculus textbooks I saw my friends lugging around. The textbook was precise and to the point.

If you're taking any course using MyMathlab, don't purchase these, as the videos are already part of the module.

They're okay instructional videos, but the video quality is very dated, and doesn't look very hot on much else but a smartphone video player. Really, at this point, Khan Academy's stuff is the way to go.

Andrew Carroll is 35 and lives in Washington DC.
