Unsurprising ways to die

I bought this book on the strength of the amazing praise for it below. I can only think that the reviewers who laughed themselves sick over it must lead severely humor-deprived lives. While there are a few clever ideas here, all too many are trite, humdrum, and obvious, like an explorer being cooked in a cannibal tribe's pot. Like running into the back of a stopped bus on your bicycle. Like being in an elevator when the cable snaps. You might consider saving your money on this one. I wish I had.

If these are unpleasant ways to die--I wonder what the pleasant ways are?

As another reviewer said;this book can be read in about 15 minutes;but it can leave you thinking for a long time.
Some of these cartoons are hilarious,some are just plain dumb,some are obvious,some are obscure,some are realistic,some are far-fetched,some show great adventure,some are obvious,some make us feel lucky,some suggest just rewards,some are even sad;but one thing is certain,the outcome is always final.
So,now that you've read it;what do you do with it? The first thought is to pass it on---but hold on there!!
This book has great potential for further enjoyment.Besides,what can be more enjoyable than an unpleasant way to die---unless it was you,
Here are some suggestions that come to mind(having a warped mind is never a deterrent).

1 Find a quiet place,and sit down and compose a caption for each
cartoon.
2 Write an epitaph for the gravestone of the victim.
3 Have a copy handy when you visit your Doctor in case he has the
"real bad news" for you;and tell him "That isn't in the book;does
that mean it is not supposed to be unpleasant?"
4 Leave a copy at the Funeral Parlour.It might help some mourner
feel that things could have been even worse.
5 Send it to someone who is always sick and complaining ,with a note
saying,"Now's your chance,better take your exit now than wait till
something else even worse happens to you".

If none of these suggestions don't suit you;dont fret,you can probably come up with something even better---the possibilities are endless.

Endless laughter, long after the book was looked at!!!!!

I first saw this book in my spanish class in high school. The owner handed it to me and just sat back and watched as I broke out in laughter with every page I turned. That day in class was very quick compared to the usual hum-drum of day to day monotony. I didn't want that book to end ever. I liked it so much that I decided to go out and buy one for myself. That was 6 years ago, and the book is sitting right next to me by my computer. I still laugh every time I look at it! The book itself is now in shambles, with every page out of order and some missing, because I flipped through it so much!
You know, I wish there was a website that had his material on it, because I'm almost positive that Mr. Fleisher has come up with several new pictures that haven't been published.

This book is legendary. With humor and wit it explains in "layman's terms" the laws which govern the mishaps and mayhem in our lives! For example, did you know that the probability of a piece of toast falling butter side DOWN onto the floor is in direct proportion to the value of the rug which it lands on? A Very Involved Text

If you are looking for a spoon-fed course in aerodynamics I suggest you pick up a copy of Anderson's text. However, if you are a student who wants a firm grasp on the subject then this should be your first choice. Carpenter covers the basics of fluid dynamics followed by potential flow, then moves on to 2 dimensional airfoil theory and 3d wing theory. As this is an undergraduate book the chapters on 2d and 3d aerodynamics are developed from potential flow theory. As a result this book is best used to develop an understanding of subsonic aerodynamics.

Additional topics covered in this book include: compressible flow (only covered in one chapter, you're better off looking for a gas dynamics book if you want to learn compressible fluid dynamics in full), some boundary-layer theory and viscous flows (very complete for an introductory text), some propeller theory (I haven't read this chapter personally), and lastly a chapter devoted to modern flow control methods (this was a really nice addition to the book because it provides some practical but innovative designs used in aerodynamics today).

I give this book 4 stars only because of some issues I have with formatting. While I love the fact that this book is very information dense,sometimes it makes finding specific pieces of information difficult. It is probably best to use this book in conjunction with another text that focuses on some of the applied aspects of aerodynamics.

One last note:
This book is much more mathematical than physical. You will need a strong background in vector calculus. If you are looking for a book which describes performance metrics such as CL-alpha curves for different airfoil/wing shapes, then seek out a design book or an aerodynamics book on applied material.

First of all I would say something about the service of Amazon to which I surely give 5 stars cause I first didn't receive the item on time because of a postal service problem; but when i told this to Amazon after other 15 days i had my item at home... so nice work Amazon!
The book...what to say...I need it for an exam (aerodynamics applied to aircraft)at university and I passed it with no problem thanks to this book... and I think this is enough..

A Compelling Start to a New Fantasy Series

I don't normally review books I've read on Amazon -- why guild the lily, and add to what others have already done far better than I could? But given the relatively few reviews for this so far, I figured that I'd chime in for a change.

I've enjoyed Larry Correia's other series (Grimnoir and MHI), which were entertaining and well-written (if nothing incredibly deep and a bit on the "pulpy" side but very enjoyably so), so I decided to give this a try. I'm quite glad that I did.

This is unequivically Larry Correia's best work yet. While the prose in his prior series can be workman-like at times (and the focus on some of the details of action sequences can detract slightly from the narrative), the quality of writing here is a clear improvement beyond the solid efforts of Larry's previous series. The characterization is also Larry's best work, with the protagonist significantly more nuanced and complex than in prior series (with the possible exception of Franks in MHI), while still being heroic and sympathetic and acting rationally, given his outlook, knowledge, and constraints. The plotting is extremely well-done and well-paced, and the periodic flashbacks (especially in the early going) were well-placed and of well-tailored length to slake the reader's thirst for backstory and worldbuilding without giving away the whole game or detracting from the overall narrative arc.

Overall, the world is close enough to ours to be recognizable and not so different that it and its characters are unrelatable. Their motivations are well-established, and even having read Larry's two other fantasy-ish series, the plot twists and events were not the least bit predictable, other than insofar as characters in novels should act in a manner true to who they are. Side characters are filled in as necessary, again, without giving away too much information or giving us full insight into their plans and motivations for those whose arcs are not resolved in this book. While there are hints as to some of their motivations, particularly for the more minor characters whose arcs are resolved -- the hints provided regarding the "string-pulling" big bad behind the scenes and the "dirty work" big bad implementing things, and the inferences that the reader can draw, are tantalizing, and make me wish that this whole series had already been completed.

Continuity is also well-established, as are the laws of unintended consequence -- in several instances, characters are appropriately forced to deal with the results of their earlier choices, both for good and for ill. All-in-all, its a very promising start to the series. Is it Brandon Sanderson's "The Stormlight Archive"? No, it's not -- more focused on action, narrower in scope, less concerned with the overall magic system and worldbuilding. But it's thoughtful, creative, interesting, coherent, consistent, well-paced and well-plotted -- a damn fine fantasy book.

My only complaint -- though it's a good problem to have -- is the wait before the next book in the series comes out. Nicely done, Larry -- and keep up the great work!

Excellent start to a new series

Corriea has created a fascinating new world for this series, and shows off his abilities as a writer. Some authors who have found success with one style are unable to branch out and write anything else. This is not the case here. Son of the Black Sword is quite distinct from both the Monster Hunter and the Grimnoir stories, but equally as good as those series. The world building in particular is excellent. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Slow start; thunderous end

The first third or so of the book is concerned with setting up a deep and vibrant world. The action is there; the character building; even some obscure plot points. But the movement of the plot is opaque.

Then the big lie is revealed. And other lies start to surface. And the direction of the plot begins to become clear.

Begins. Because there are still a few tricks, a few secrets only hinted at.

It took me a while to get into the book. Once it hooked me, I was caught.

I WILL be buying the sequel as soon as it comes available.
